RANDOM – ENFAL AKBAŞ Interview

Inspired by the dynamism of modern and urban women of the metropolis, our brand RANDOM was born in September 2008 to reflect new styles in today’s fashion.

Can you tell me about Random’s branding story and the emergence process?

Inspired by the dynamism of modern and urban women of the metropolis, our brand RANDOM was born in September 2008 to reflect new styles in today’s fashion. It is a creative, design-oriented premium brand, enriching itself with new trends of mosaic-cultured structure of the 21st century.

Since its launch, Random brand has been meeting with its customers by bringing itself to the top of each season; in terms of collection designs, sales team, production quality and fast shipping. For this reason, the existing customer portfolio has the advantage of shopping new styles throughout the season and loyalty of new customers are ensured.

Random is the choice of urban women who create their own fashion and are not captive of today’s fast- paced fashion. Creating her own style and following the trends, Random Woman has a free, confident, leading, creative and modern character with high expectations of design.

Would you like to share with us the designs and style of Random? and How exactly do you prepare your collections based on a target audience?

Random is the choice of urban women who create their own fashion and are not captive of today’s fast-paced fashion. Creating her own style and following the trends, Random Woman has a free, confident, leading, creative and modern character with high expectations of design. While designing our collections, we focused on Random Woman’s struggle with time; so we created our fashion with designs that can be preferred either day or night. Our priority is always to create innovative, directing, non- ordinary styles and that’s the reason why Random Woman always feels special with our designs. For us, providing this feeling to our valuable customers is priceless.

Are all the fabrics that you create your collections from completely produced in your own body? Would you say about Turkish textiles and garment production?

We create Random collections not only by producing our own fabric but also by supplying fabrics from different companies in Turkey. I think, Turkish Fabrics (fabrics produced in Turkey) and apparel products have a great contribution to world’s textile and apparel sector with their design and quality of production due to continuous developments particularly in R&D, innovation and design.

Can you tell me about the policy of your brand regarding sustainability?

Our company “Akbaslar Textile” , is an integrated textile company which provides high quality services by focusing on sustainability with the international accreditations we have in our sector.

Therefore, we have a wide range of sustainable product groups and certificates. Some of those include; GRS certification (Global Recycled Standard) for recycled polyester yarns, REPREVE Polyester (made from mechanical recycling of plastic bottles), BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) for cottons, TENC L, MODAL fabrics and PEFC, FSC, LENZING ECOVERO (It is sustainable and traceable. It has 50% lower emission and water effect compared to normal viscose.) for viscoses.

Currently, we’ve been using not all but many sustainable fabrics in our Random collections. We aim to become one of the pioneers of sustainable fashion by increasing the percentage of sustainable fabrics and materials used in our designs.

Your love regarding your business is can be easily seen in your brand. Tell me about your inspirers? What are your recommendations for those who want to make careers in a similar field?

As you also state, I do love my job and I really enjoy doing it; not only for our Random Brand, but also for all the global brand chains such as ZARA, H&M, MANGO, M&S, TOPSHOP; each time I start creating collections, I’m filled with fresh excitement. I personally get involved in each process of my collection from designing to sampling, marketing and production as well.

By this way, I increase the efficiency of my designs. I think it is very important to be able to present your designs and collections as well as creating them. My inspiration sources can change according to my customers and collection seasons but in general I can say the seasonal catwalk shows, exhibitions and fairs I attend, vacations, trips that I have made are what inspires me. My advice to those who want to pursue a career in this field (textile and fahion designer) is to master textile (fabric), pattern (modeling) and sewing techniques alongside creativity.

Would you like to share about your new projects and objectives for the upcoming period? Do you have plans to create an overseas store chain?

As Akbaslar Tekstil, we are a globally recognized and trusted company both in design and production in the fabric and apparel industury. Our brand Random became a well-known, successful brand of Turkish retail market in Turkey. We opened our online store 2 years ago thus we can sell all over the world. We can also reach customers abroad through online sales.

We’ve started to make efforts to increase the awareness of our brand abroad in the coming periods, and as RANDOM, we plan to become a globally recognized brand in the retail market, as in Turkey.
