Can you assess the current situation of the denim sector both in our country and in the world?

The US, the world’s largest denim manufacturer, has lost its manufacturing strength to Asian countries such as in China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Turkey lately. An increase in demand in the denim sector continues its development along with fashion and functionality, which is hem, embroidery, and fashion-driven of the products. Especially, mainly denim pants, jackets, shirts, dresses, skirts, and vests, are produced along with home textile.

Total exports of the previous years were € 341 million in 2015, and € 355 million in 2016 and € 327 million in 2017. Likewise, the data on denim fabric imports at the same rate amounted to € 241 million in 2015, € 254 million in 2016 and € 311 million in 2017. These ratios indicate that our foreign purchasing power is high and will as much continue to rise as the production of denim fabrics in Turkey.

Throughout the world, Turkey is placed as 4’th in denim fabric exports. The countries with the largest share in the world exports of denim fabrics are China with 38.3%, Pakistan with 10.7% and Hong Kong with 9.8% and Turkey with 8.6%. We predict that Denim fabric sales will continue in 2019 as well. We also believe that the overall course will be much slower comparing to last years.

Could you give us some hints about your new strategies in production and marketing? What are your expectations from Denim by Denim Premiere Vision London?

We will continue our purchases in both domestic and imported fabrics in the coming season too. Besides our business is in apparel production in Turkey, we plan to focus also on the production in the Far East. The forecast that our export and import will increase will prove to be in line with the foresight of the European and American brands we work with.

In relation to Denim by Denim Premiere Vision London fair, which will be held in London at 5-6 December, we thrilled to pieces together with all the denim producers, as this organization will be organized in a different European city after Paris. We will be introducing our SS20 collection in London. This fair is of vital importance for us because we will be able to rivet this through our 20th-year activities. Our expectation is that the exhibition offers a new approach to fashion and design while presenting new inspiration for the sector.

In the context of sustainability, what do you do to carry your company to the future?

In today’s market, innovation, and sustainability are strongly demanded. Naturally, we continue our business partnership with the factories that adopt innovative materials, advanced spinning techniques, and fabric processing methods in order to break the ex-boundary of traditional cotton products. In this context, we continue the production of sustainable fabrics, starting with BCI membership, with both recycled-cotton, polyester, and PCW-oriented fabrics. We are working together with our customers on the basis of apparel and brand. Our goal is to focus the denim fabric manufacturing industry on cleaner and water-saving production methods.
